Poems of Motherhood

Within the first half of her book, Emily shares the raw feelings of motherhood. Preparing for motherhood without really knowing what we’re preparing for as we can never fully understand what’s coming next.

Putting aside our pasts and the degrees we once earned as we’re no longer ourselves but now our baby’s mother and nothing more.

Emily puts into words the feelings new motherhood in everything that changes within the household, the marriage/relationship between the parents, and within ourselves as mothers.

Throughout the book, I kept thinking how I felt she had been in my brain as I was going through all of this with my children when they were babies years ago.

Trying to be the best mother we can be, doing all the research, trying to feed them the best foods and then learning some may not have been as great as we had once thought.

Emily puts into words the joys, the struggles, and the love of new motherhood in a way that most have difficulty doing.

If you’ve ever felt you couldn’t adequately describe new motherhood to someone who hasn’t been on the journey, this book of poetry will help!

Also, if you’ve felt alone, as most of us do within motherhood and like no one understood what you were going through, this book will help you feel seen, heard, and no longer alone.

Poems of Mothers and the World

The second half of Emily’s book delves into the world of new mothers as we come out of the fog of new motherhood and try to find ourselves again. Realizing we’re still our own beings but yet, different than we were before.

We remember who we were before we entered the world of motherhood, the simplicity of it all. Earlier in our relationship when it was just the two of us without children, focusing on each other and our careers.

Now she looks to the future with a renewed sense of hope yet some confusion and difficulty as well as life goes on around her.

Emily shares with us poems about the world around her and the emotions within her as she navigates her new reality.

No Time to Read?

It’s ok! Emily’s book of poetry is just 88 pages and the great thing about books of poetry is you can put them down and pick them up and not have to try and remember where you were within the story because each poem is it’s own entity.

Though I’ve got to say, you may not want to put it down, it’s a great book that I enjoyed reading in one sitting after my 3 little boys were nestled in their beds.
