Our Search Criteria
Our three boys love shooting hoops and playing basketball games together. We wanted a bigger basketball hoop than the mini basketball hoop I wrote about in my blog post about the best toddler basketball hoop for hours of fun, as our boys are now school-age and have outgrown that one.
When we were looking at outdoor basketball hoops, our criteria included:
- We wanted an adjustable portable basketball hoop so we could move it when we want and not need to worry about cementing it into the ground.
- We wanted it to have an adjustable height so it can grow with them and be able to easily adjust to different heights they could manage on their own.
This one has both of those things, plus the ability to add another pole to make it even higher when they need it.
Also, I wanted it to have good reviews and come from a company that has been around for a while. I don’t want to buy something, especially something expensive, that isn’t going to last. I expect an outdoor basketball hoop to provide years of active play for my sons.
Why We Love This Basketball Hoop

It’s a portable basketball hoop with a shatterproof backboard, steel frame, and 18-inch standard rim. It’s perfect for our kids because it features an adjustable height through the crank that my kids can do on their own, as well as an additional pole we can add to make it even taller. It goes from 5.5 feet to 10 feet.
It’s made for outdoor play, which is what we wanted, as it is off to the side of our driveway. You could use it indoors as well, if you have a large enough space for it. It’s made for young kids like mine who are school-age, and it can grow with them for years to come. It’s great for solo practice sessions, free throws, and basketball games.
My boys have already made their own basketball court by marking off the driveway to show where the free-throw line is, out-of-bounds, and more. It’s pretty cool.
This outdoor basketball hoop is great for kids who have the smaller size balls, like my kids, as well as the standard size basketballs, like my husband and I have.
This basketball hoop has a stable base once you fill it with water or sand. They recommend sand, so we picked some up from our local hardware store. We’ve had quite the strong winds since we got this basketball hoop, and it’s stayed upright, so that sand is doing its job of keeping it firmly upright for safe play!
The stable base even has wheels so we can easily move it around if we want to adjust where it is.
It was easy to put together by following the detailed instructions. It’s the perfect gift for kids, teens, and adults who want a basketball hoop.

Size 3 Basketballs We Love
Our kids are in elementary school, and they prefer the smaller basketballs for their smaller hands. As I stated above, this adjustable basketball hoop fits all sizes of basketballs from child to adult.
Child-sized basketballs that we have and love are actually quite inexpensive, which is great! These even come with a pump so you can easily reinflate as needed. We tend to just need to reinflate after they’ve been out in the garage all winter, and we go to play in the spring.
Champion Basketballs
If you’re looking for all sizes of basketballs and want a more well known brand, Champion Sports makes great basketballs. They have different sizes from mini (size 3) to junior (size 5) to intermediate (size 6) to official (size 7). They also have a lot of different colors, which is great if you have more than one kid like I do. It really helps for each kid to have their own color if they’re all shooting hoops at the same time.
