Looking for 8 year old boy birthday gift ideas? Here are a bunch he’s sure to love for his birthday or Christmas! I’m going off the birthday list of my 8-year-old boy to help you find the perfect gift for your 8-year-old in this gift guide.
MindWare Playful Chef Master Series
My 8-year-old boy is huge into Master Chef Jr. and this is the perfect set for him! He loves helping out in the kitchen and having his own cooking and baking supplies. This is a great gift for kids who want to help out in the kitchen or are fans of the show, like my son!
This set has turned out to be one of the best gifts because it has helped him with new skills, cooking and baking! He’s enjoying helping us in the kitchen now, which most of the time, helps speed things up.
World of Dots Book
If your child likes dot-to-dots, they are going to LOVE this one! It’s much more advanced than the ones they did when they were little, which makes it more fun! It’s great for working on fine motor skills and a great screen-free activity. This book is for ages 8 and up so it’s great for different ages, even older kids!
Marble Circuit Puzzle
This is a great game for kids to play on their own, or even with a friend or sibling. Our younger twins have the little kids version, and our oldest has this big kids version. It’s a great way to test out how slight changes can completely change where the marble will land and use critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills.
Pokémon Battle Board Game
The Pokémon Battle Academy Board Game is a lot of fun. Our 8 year old loves it, and lucky for us, it was easy to learn how to use, because he wants us to play too! Our kids who started out playing the game on the app, instead of the way people back when I was little started playing, still have fun playing the classic card battle! Who knew?!
Pokemon Building Bricks
This set of Lego type building bricks has three action figures your child can build. They are an off-brand but still work and go together just like the name brand. This set is the Squirtle Evolution set including Wartortle and Blastoise.
Pokemon & More Mad Libs
Do you see a Pokemon pattern here? Ha! These Pokemon Mad Libs have kept us all laughing, they’re fun to work on and fun to read!
If your young readers aren’t into Pokemon, there are many more fun Mad Libs out there, including the Mad Scientist Mad Libs below!
Off Road Lego Set
Our son continues to be a huge fan of anything Lego. He’s got so many sets at this point and absolutely loves this one! It comes with a big 4×4 truck with big wheels, a tent, minifigs, and more!

Matchbox Farm
There is so much to do on the Matchbox Farm set. We actually just made a video of this if you want to see what it’s like.
This set includes a tractor and trailer, hay bales, and even detachable goat, horse, and cow figures that make sounds!
K’nex Roller Coaster
If your child is into building stem toys, this is perfect. Not only can you build this rollercoaster, there are two other designs you can make as well! We just made a video of it if you’d like to learn more: Watch Video Here
Space Exploration Shuttle Toys
This brick set is fun to put together and quite the fun set. My son is a huge fan of space and space travel so this is right up his alley. It’s a great gift that is cheaper than Lego sets but just as fun to put together.
Tech Deck Sets
Tech Deck sets continue to be favorites around here. Each one of my boys has a few sets of their own. We have them keep them in their rooms but from time to time, they’ll bring them all out in the living room and play together, it’s neat to see. These sets come with a fingerboard and a fun place to skate!
Gigantic Dino Egg
This gigantic dino egg is fun to excavate and there are 12 dinosaurs inside! It includes the essential tools to get the dinosaurs out, and is a great way to keep kids occupied without a screen for a while! I suggest doing this outside on the driveway or sidewalk, as it can get quite messy. If you do it inside, have a rather large area for your child to work in as it gets a bit messy.
